What's New In PBIS? (Postive
Behavior Interventions and Supports)
The Eastern Region of the
NYS-PBIS Initiative continues to have success with schools implementing PBIS (Postive
Behavior Interventions and Supports)! Schools at the Elementary, Middle
and High School levels are reporting improvements in student behavior including
decrease in out-of-school suspensions and office discipline referrals. The
Easter Region of the NYS-PBIS Initiative, highlighted on the map shown below,
boasts 50 implementing (cohort) schools spread across 16 districts and one
private school. There are districts large and small and include rural,
urban and suburban areas. There are 5 complete districts implementing in
the Eastern Region.
The Eastern Reagion TAC
(Technical Assistance Center), sanctioned and funded by VESID and the State
Education Department, provides training, technical assistance and professional
development to cohort schools and districts. Expansion to new schools is
currently capped as the NYS-PBIS Initiative works on building capacity to
take on more schools.
Capital Region BOCES has
developed a PBIS COSER service for schools interested in starting PBIS
implementation soon. To learn more about this COSER service
